Orrefors Difference Wine Glass

Designed by Swedish artist Erika Lagerbielke, the unique suite of wine glasses explicitly crafted to enhance flavor and bouquet brings a new dimension to the enjoyment of fine wine. Form and function have been carefully tested in this creation. Working closely with wine connoisseur Bengt-Goran Kronstam, Lagerbielke has developed the Difference glasses to reflect the wine's maturity, rather than the grape variety or region, eliminating the need for multiple types of glasses.

In the Difference concept, only two glasses are required for red wines (young and mature), two for white wines (dry/crisp and fruit), one for champagne (tall and narrow to preserve bubbles, yet gently curved to capture the bouquet), and a small glass for sweet dessert wines. Each Difference glass boasts a distinctive design with strikingly curved bowls and slender, elegant stems that bring beauty to the glass. The broad foot adds visual and physical stability to complete the look.

"I probably worked on Difference more than on any other design, both aesthetically and functionally," Lagerbielke says, celebrating her twentieth anniversary as an Orrefors designer in 2002. It takes seven craftsmen to create each individual glass, showcasing the level of craftsmanship and attention to detail put into each piece. The glasses are also available as a boxed pair and are made from lead-free material, with handwashing being the preferred method of cleaning.
